Multimodality: The Audiovisual Avant-garde

Video highlights from Multimodality: The Audiovisual Avant-garde

Multimodality: The Audiovisual Avant-garde was an immersive exhibition/installation/concert on 24 April 2024 at Cromwell Place for London Digital Art Week, made possible by TAEX.

The event featured an installation of three individual pieces of my audiovisual digital abstraction in physical form, sounding together in the room in an evolving soundscape, called 3 Colours in 3 Modes, plus the world premiere of Quartet Derivation, my composition for string quartet, composed in the same harmonic framework as the installation and performed by Apartment House, as well as my own improvised performance on the alto saxophone. This was all presented alongside further pieces of audiovisual digital abstraction in digital form.

The installation, composition, and improvised sound elements are all part of an ongoing project that will continue to occupy me for the next several years. Quartet Derivation is a fully notated composition, while my improvised performance was based loosely on the harmonic framework common to both the composition for string quartet and the audiovisual installation made up of electronic tones.
